Here are 10 cruise hacks that’ll save your sanity, your suitcase space, and even your spending money.
1. 🎟️ Check-In Early Online
Don’t wait until the port — check in online as soon as it opens. You’ll get the best boarding time and avoid the long lines.
2. 🧳 Pack a Carry-On Bag for Embarkation Day
Your luggage might take a few hours to get to your room. Pack a small bag with your swimsuit, meds, phone charger, and anything else you’ll want right away.
3. ⚡ Bring a Cruise-Approved Power Strip
Cruise cabins have very few outlets. A non-surge power strip will keep you charged and TikTok-ready. Don’t bring one with a surge protector — it’ll be confiscated!
4. 🧷 Magnetic Hooks Are Your Secret Weapon
Cabin walls are metal — so bring magnetic hooks to hang hats, towels, swimsuits, and bags. It’s a space-saver and a sanity-saver.
5. 🍕 Room Service Is Usually Free — Use It!
Late-night pizza? Breakfast in bed? Room service is available on most ships (some with small fees). Don’t be shy — you paid for it!
6. 🚫 Skip the Bottled Water — Bring Your Own
Most cruise lines let you bring a 12-pack of canned soda or bottled water on board. Check your cruise line’s beverage policy and save $20+.
7. 💳 Use a Lanyard for Your Sail & Sign Card
You’ll need your card for everything — room access, drinks, shopping. A lanyard makes life easier (and keeps you from losing it in the hot tub 😅).
8. 📱 Download the Cruise Line App Before You Sail
The app is your cruise control center — check your itinerary, see what events are happening, and message other guests onboard.
9. 🛳️ Avoid the Buffet on Embarkation Day
The buffet will be packed. Look for alternative lunch options like the burger joint, taco bar, or main dining room. Less crowded, same deliciousness.
